About Trip:

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is one of the most popular lower Annapurna trekking in Nepal. It is a short and easy trek in the Annapurna Conservation Area suitable for all groups of people. Ghorepani Trek is extremely popular due to the spectacular Himalayan peaks, remarkable countryside landscape, lush forests along with its touch to the ethnic culture and hospitality. This  fascinating trek offers a first-hand look at the awe-inspiring sunrise view over snow-capped mountains and a journey into a region of outstanding beauty.

The trek begins from Nayapul and goes through the picturesque ethnic villages and blooming rhododendron forest. Climbing 3300 steps up to Ulleri is a bit challenging but the beautiful sceneries all around are well enough to inspire you. The hospitable and typical Gurung and Magar vilages on the way lays an insight into the local culture and traditions. Similarly, various floras and faunas can also be seen during the trail.

A short hike uphill from the beautiful village of Ghorepani takes you to Poon Hill, the famous view-point where watching sunrise over the snow-capeed mountains is simply breathtaking. Poon Hill is also the fabulous destination to enjoy the majestic Himalayas as Mt. Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Himchuli and other surrounding peaks can be explored from here.

Being the the lower region trek, this trek can be undertaken in all the seasons throughout the year. Marvel Adventure conducts Ghorepani Poonhill Trek with a professionally designed itinerary and all the neccessary arrangements. Experienced, flexible and trustworthy guide and a great trek to Poon Hill in Annapurna!

Experienced, flexible and trustworthy guide and a great trek to Poon Hill in Annapurna!

Rating:

My friend and I had been travelling throughout India and Nepal for 6 weeks and had a five days in between trekking in Langtang Valley and going to Bhutan. Instead of staying in Kathmandu for another five days, we wanted to get out of the capital and see another side of Nepal.

I was recommended Marvel Adventure by a friend I had met travelling, so contacted Nir and asked him what he recommended doing in the five days. He suggested that we fly to Pokhara from Kathmandu, then hike to Ghorepani/Poon Hill and back (2-3 day hike) and then spend the last two nights in Pokhara before flying back to Kathmandu.

It was the perfect way to spend five spare days in Nepal as we got to see some of the Annapurna region. Nir was very professional and organised every aspect of our trip, including flights, accommodation, TIMS permits and on the ground transportation. He was also very flexible with us, for example, we were hiking at a pace that got us comfortably back from Poon Hill at a decent hour that we had the option of spending an extra night in Pokhara as opposed to just the one.

I can definitely recommend travelling with Nir and Marvel Adventure to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, flexible and organised guide, and will definitely be coming back to Nepal for some more trekking with Nir!

While spending a month traveling around Nepal and India, the best 8 days of my trip were spent with Marvel Adventure trekking in the Annapurna region. I can't imagine having a more authentic or heart-opening experience of Nepal without Marvel.

For our small group, we began emailing the owner Nir (pronounced "Near"--as in not far) a few weeks before our arrival, explaining that it was our first time in country. We had some solid ideas of what we wanted to do, but also needed some on-the-ground expertise and recommendations. Nir was exceptionally prompt and collaborative helping us plan our trip, and he custom tailored 8 days exclusively for us--not just with trekking, but lots of other activities as well.

Nir advised us on everything we needed to know (like what to bring) and handled everything from in-country transportation (flights, cabs, etc) to hotel accommodations, permits, and booking everything in between. He even personally inspected some of the places we wanted to visit. Always with a big smile on his face, his presence kept us laughing and having fun the whole trip, sharing stories about growing up in Nepal and teaching us how to eat, speak, and drink like the locals. He's great at adjusting plans quickly too, letting us add another traveller onto our itinerary at a moments notice. He kept us fully informed everyday of our schedule but also surprised us with delightful treats and mini-excursions that kept our well-orchestrated trip always feeling like an impromptu adventure.

I left Nepal feeling like a local leaving home, and I can't wait to get back there with even more friends now knowing that we have the country's best guide and operator to start planning our next life-changing adventure.

Nir, the owner of the company was our guide. He was 100% attentive from start to finish. We completed the Poon Hill trek, and spent some time in Pokhara. Nir, provided us with great accomadation, information and advice. This is a new company, but Nir runs it with great professionalism and determination to meet his clients every needs. He gave us a taste of the local culture, and introduced us to Nepalese traditions one would not usually encounter.

Excellent experience I had doing the Ghorepani-Poonhill trek with this company. I was actually a solo traveller and joined a Holland couple throughout my trek. Nir was our guide and everything we ever needed was provided instantly. He treated us more like a friend than a guide and we never felt out of place. Something which every foreigner would want in a foreign country. I strongly recommend him and his team for any Nepal trekking adventure. Will come back soon! :)

1. Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for all clients undertaking any trip. It should provide adequate security for the full duration of the tour to cover personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, helicopter rescue and loss of luggage. Make sure that your insurance policy covers up to 3300 meters of altitude.

2. Packing List

  • Sunglasses
  • Sun-Cream and Lip Balm with high SPF
  • Hat/Cap
  • T-shirt, Vests and Shirt
  • Fleece/Sweater
  • Fleece Jacket
  • Waterproof Jacket and Trousers
  • Warm Gloves
  • Hiking Boots
  • 3-4 pairs of socks
  • Day pack (30-40 liters)
  • Torch light
  • Water bottle (Minimum 2 liters)
  • Small Hand Towel
  • Sleeping Bag for up to -15 Degree Celsius

We provide experienced, knowledgeable and honest guide with good communication skills in English language to make your trip wonderful. The guide will provide all the information about the mountains, different histories, cultures, traditions and many more. We will provide 1 porter for 2 people. The porters are helpful as well as strong and will carry a maximum of 25 kgs combined. After giving the best services along with the hard works up in the mountains, guides and porters expect some tips from your side. Tipping culture is very common in tourism sector.

4. Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is a pathological effect of high altitude on humans, caused by acute exposure to low partial pressure of oxygen at high altitude. It commonly occurs above 3000 meters. It presents as a collection of nonspecific symptoms, acquired at high altitude or in low air pressure, resembling a case of "flu, carbon monoxide poisoning, or a hangover". However, most people can ascend to 3000 meters without difficulty.

Primary Symptoms of Altitude Sickness:

  • Lack of appetite, nausea, or vomiting
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Swelling of hands, feet, and face
  • Insomnia
  • Shortness of breath upon exertion
  • Nosebleed
  • Persistent rapid pulse
  • Drowsiness
  • General malaise

Prevention:

Ascending slowly is the best way to avoid altitude sickness. Avoiding strenuous activity such as skiing, hiking, etc. in the first 24 hours at high altitude reduces the symptoms of AMS. Alcohol and sleeping pills are respiratory depressants, and thus slow down the acclimatization process and should be avoided. Alcohol also tends to cause dehydration and exacerbates AMS. Thus, Marvel Adventure strictly suggests avoiding alcohol consumption in the first 24–48 hours at a higher altitude.

Guides and porters from Marvel Adventure are very much familiar with this problem due to their experience. All of them are trained with basic medical trainings and hence they definitely can help you.
